クリストファーについて: 私はアメリカのペンシルベニア州フィラデルフィア郊外の出身です。子どもの頃、私の町はほとんどが農地でしたが、成長するにつれて次第に住宅地へと開発され、人口も急増しました。最終的には、子どもの頃に知っていた風景とはまったく別の場所のようになってしまいました。 私は9歳の頃から文通をしていて、主に日本の友人たちと交流してきました。彼らとの言語や文化の交換はとても楽しく、彼らがどんな場所でどんな生活をしているのかを知るのはもちろん、自分自身や自分の故郷について興味を持ってもらえるのも嬉しく、互いに好奇心と喜びを分かち合える経験でした。このような交流は、ずっと続けたいと思えるような大切な体験になりました。共通の話題としてよく挙がったのが「ダウンタウンのガキの使いやあらへんで」で、今でも彼らのメンバーは私の大好きなコメディアンたちです。これらの思い出は、今でも心の中で大切な宝物です。 学校では英語が一番得意で、また一番好きな科目でした。語彙をたくさん知っていればいるほど、自分をより豊かに表現できると早くから気づいていたのです。高校卒業後は、美味しいものを食べるのが大好きだったことから、料理の道に進みました。その後、構造物の製作に携わる仕事に転職しました。どちらの業界でも10年ずつ働いてきましたが、アメリカは世界中から多様な人々が集まる国なので、趣味として英語を学びたいという移民の大人や子どもたちに英語を教える機会も数多くありました。 やがて、都と文通を通じて出会い、縁あって結婚しました。そして今は一緒に南阿蘇に住んでいます。私たちの夢は、この地で英会話教室を開くことです。日本の皆さんとこのような形で関わることができて、とても嬉しく思っています。私たちのサービスが地域にとって有益なものとなり、共に過ごす時間が明るい未来へとつながっていくことを願っています。 About Christopher: I am an American from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When I was a kid, my town was mostly farmland, but as I grew older, I watched it become developed into a densely populated residential area. Eventually, it became completely unrecognizable from the place I knew during childhood. I have had pen friends, mostly from Japan, since I was 9. I loved exchanging language and culture with them. It was enjoyable not only to learn about the places they lived and what their lives were like, but also to indulge their curiosity and excitement about learning about me and where I lived. This mutual exchange became an experience that I always wanted to pursue. One common interest they all shared with me was "Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende," whose members remain some of my favorite comedians to this day. These memories are ones I will always hold dear in my heart. My favorite (and best) subject in school was English. I realized early on that the more vocabulary I knew, the better I could express myself. After high school, I began a career in the culinary arts because I love to eat delicious food. Eventually, I transitioned into a career as a structural fabricator. With a decade of tenure in each industry, and because the United States has such a highly diverse population of individuals from all over the globe, I have had the pleasure of teaching English as a hobby to numerous immigrants, both adults and children, who wanted to learn English as a second language. In time, I became pen friends with Miyako. One thing led to another, and now we are married and living together in Minamiaso. Our dream is to run an English school here in Japan. I am delighted at the opportunity to engage with Japanese people in this way. I hope that the services we offer will benefit the community, and that the time we share will shine brightly into the future.
